![]() ![]() ![]() I understand that maintaining academic integrity is very important, which is why having a LockDown Browser helps? But not everyone has access to a webcam nor can gain access to one unless they're willing to spend money on a new laptop with a built in webcam just to take these exams. What is a student in my situation supposed to do? Can I purchase a webcam at a fair price from ASU? Or am I going to be expected to drive around to every store within a 25 mile radius of my home to locate a webcam while taking on the risk of contracting the virus and spreading it to my elderly parents? Every single webcam that is affordable (<$50) is sold out and won't be in stock until mid April, which in my case happens to be after my three midterm exams have passed, please check for yourselves if you don't believe me - I am not exaggerating. WalMart, Target, Amazon, Fry's Electronics, Best Buy doesn't even have a webcam within a 250 mile radius from my zip code. I do not mind purchasing a webcam, however, with the majority of companies and businesses such as ASU going online, webcams are sold out nearly everywhere. I do not own a laptop with a camera, nor do I own a tablet or an iPad - my PC is all I have got. I have never needed to purchase one as I sign up for in-person courses and not online courses, ever, so I've never had the need. While I understand the need to enforce academic integrity, this software requires the student to have a webcam in order to confirm that the student is not cheating. I am a Computer Science student and many of my classes have moved to the Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor tool for the purpose of conducting exams. I am writing this post on behalf of myself and many other ASU students.
